I’m Ofonzo Staton, a Program & Leadership Coordinator at MILPA Collective (Motivating Intergenerational Leadership for Public Advancement). During my time as a mentor at Lee Correctional Institution’s Restoring Promise Unit I had the honor to work hand in hand with program counselor/coordinator Mrs. Siannie Jacobs. Siannie provided guidance and support, promoting an environment that encouraged growth, self-reflection, and development.

She played a crucial role in reentry preparation equipping those nearing release with resources and skils needed to successfully reenter into their communities and be good productive citizens. Her ability to connect with the mentors and mentees on a profound level produced trust and a sense of community, making a great difference in the lives of those she worked with.

Through collaborative efforts with other staff persons and the community as a whole Mrs. Jacobs played an integral role in transforming the unit into a place of hope, dignity, and positive change.
